Navtech Radar automatic surveillance system installed at Heathrow Airport

06 June 2007
Navtech Radar has won a strategically important contract for its W800 Automatic Surveillance system with the largest UK airports operator, BAA plc. The system will be installed at Heathrow Airport where it will provide continuous automatic surveillance of areas within the airport’s perimeter.

The Navtech W800 is a new system whereby a high frequency all weather radar, scanning in 360°, automatically controls CCTV to identify and track intruders for perimeter and wide area protection. The order from BAA is placed with Touchstone Electronics, who will install the new system at Heathrow.

Placement of the contract follows a successful four-month trial of the Navtech Radar Automatic Surveillance system run by Touchstone at Gatwick airport at the end of last year.

“This first order from BAA for the W800 security radar for installation at Heathrow is a landmark contract for Navtech Radar,” remarked Andrew Rosenthal, Navtech Radar’s Managing Director. “Whilst the W800 has already been installed in a number of high profile sites in Europe and the Middle East, there is no question that BAA is our most prestigious UK customer to date.”
